Why I Real-Time Ride Share

One of our Avego users, Patrick D. in California, put pen to paper (or better, finger to keyboard) and told us what role Avego plays in his commute life.

“Ever since that fateful day that we bumped into Paul S. at the Larkspur Ferry (January 29th), my carpool has been using Avego on a daily basis. Honestly, it started out as a way to get Starbucks cards, but it quickly become something more.

First, I can’t imagine driving the 101 corridor alone every day. It’s not just about time, but also the wear-and-tear on my car, and my body being behind the wheel. It’s amazing the difference it makes sharing the driving duty with others.

Second, Iam a big believer in resourcefulness. For me, this goes way beyond environmental conservation (how I use resources around me), extending to how I am a resource for others. When I ride share (there are five of us in a carpool that goes from Sonoma County to the Larkspur Ferry), I am giving to others of my car/gasoline, my interest (in their work), my questions (about life and nature), yielding true synergy (1+1=3).

Third, my carpool is made up of type A guys and we LOVE competition. Some of the guys now ride share to the park & ride (where we meet) so that they can get an extra ride share in.

Overall, I like that we’re part of a movement that matters. Sharing our ride share data with the transportation folks in Marin also helps them to use our public resources better in the future too, hopefully justifying more dollars to be spent on improving the experience for even more people.

I look forward to sharing some tips soon about what’s made our ride share group work. Happy Monday Avego-ers!”
