For the first time anywhere, commuters who are verified carpoolers are being rewarded with cheaper parking rates. By working with local parking facilities, Avego can automatically confirm which cars that have been used for ridesharing that day. The parking facility then allows the driver to park at a fraction of the normal cost.
This is already being rolled out in Cork, Ireland, where Avego have teamed up with one of Europe’s largest parking operators, Q-Park. By signing up for this pioneering scheme, drivers receive a card which they present when parking. Once they have been verified as ridesharers, they are allowed to park for just €5 per day – compared to upwards of €18 paid by regular drivers. When used over time, this represents an enormous saving (in addition to the savings associated with using Avego). To retain their card, drivers simply have to use Avego to travel to Cork City Centre 5 times per month.
This breakthrough initiative has enormous international potential; particularly once urban planners and parking operators begin to recognise the benefits:
- Cities can become more attractive destinations for company workforces
- This is ideal for urban planners who are trying to alleviate congestion
- Conversely, this scheme can result in greater numbers of people travelling into city centres
- Parking operators everywhere can use this model to fill excess capacity
This pilot scheme is effective immediately in Cork, Ireland. Those who are interested should email qpark@avego.com for a quick response.
Happy saving!
