Electric vehicle? Even better!

We’ve had several enquiries recently from electric car owners about using our app and whether they will be recoup their expenses at a different rate. Most wanted to know if they would receive the same rate as drivers of regular cars, considering the fact that their fuel costs are drastically lower relative to petrol.

Good news! Avego drivers are all reimbursed at the same rate, regardless of the type of car they drive. This rate is based not only on fuel costs but also on vehicle purchase price, depreciation, etc. So in short, if you drive an electric vehicle you can make an even bigger difference to your environment by using Avego… go you!

What if I don’t own the vehicle I am driving?

Avego is currently intended for use by people who drive their own cars and wish to make use of their empty seats by accepting passengers. Under the terms of regular private motor insurance, this is covered.

If you are driving a rental vehicle or using great services like RelayRides or car2go, it gets a little trickier. Every different service provider will have their own individual terms of agreement, which can vary widely. That’s why it’s impossible to give one answer to this question, as every agreement will come with its own unique terms. Therefore you should always check with your service provider if you wish to use Avego whilst driving a car you don’t own.

As Avego becomes more and more widespread, who knows what joint initiatives might happen with rental companies. Certainly, it may be a very attractive partnership for third parties as cars that rideshare are statistically proven to have lower accident rates*. Watch this space!
