Ireland & Texas Take Epic Carpool

It’s official – the Irish and Texans are fond friends! Yesterday Richard Bruton, Ireland’s Minister of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, visited Austin to promote Irish businesses making roots in Texas. This was part of an annual “Trade Mission to Texas,” hosted by Enterprise Ireland. Austin’s Mayor Lee Leffingwell joined the Minister for breakfast, where the two made the exciting announcement that Ireland has chosen Austin as the home for its next U.S. consulate, only the second international consulate in the city.

Our Carma Austin team was honorably invited to the event thanks to our shared Irish-Texan roots. Carma’s local project, which is a public-private partnership, is as example of how an Irish business can work hand-in-hand with state and local governments to deliver solutions needed for the economies here. In our scenario, its our growing traffic levels.

Of course, we couldn’t leave the day all to talk. The Irish-Texan partnership had to be officiated in Carma carpooling style!

Sound bite from the day:

Minister Bruton: “This is the perfect example of how Irish companies are innovators in technology and transportation issues that affect people in all geographies. Austin has an incredible sense of community and the Carma app is an easy way for people to tap into this spirit and help each other get there together. It’s great for Irish business, and it’s great for Austin.”
