Avego RTR selected for 6-month DOD pilot

Northern Virginia BRAC project to affect 22,000 commuters in DC area

With funding from the Federal Highway Administration and local government partners, Avego technology will be used to create a Real-Time Ridesharing corridor for five military sites affected by Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) in Northern Virginia. The pilot will be available to any military staff and contractors who commute to these bases in the Washington DC area.

Some 22,000 employees are directly impacted by the relocations and will now travel along the I-95 beltway, one of the top 10 most congested stretches of highway in the United States.

The initial phase of the program is a three-month project ramp-up followed by a six-month pilot involving five sites: the Marine Corps Base Quantico, Fort Belvoir, the National Geospatial Agency (NGA), the Mark Center and Arlington Hall. The project goal is to use this innovative transportation option to alleviate the traffic congestion and parking demand caused by relocating thousands of defense workers around Northern Virginia as the Pentagon consolidates bases and offices.

  1. Hi!
Best of luck with the program! I hope you have a special little group of users that you monitor closely and call each week to make sure you get all kinds of feedback from the riders and drivers to continously improve the information you send out. Just a tip 🙂
