What Makes People Carpool?

Carpool-Venn-Diagram

I recently thought it would be cool to see a Venn Diagram which visualizes the various benefits of carpooling. As you can see above, I went for ‘affordability’, ‘speed’ and ‘flexibility’ as the three main motivators. I then sent it to everyone here at Team Carma asking for their feedback. I got a lot more than I bargained for!

“What about the environmental benefits?!” answered one fellow @TeamCarma member. “It’s also fun and sociable” said another. “Buses aren’t always affordable!” chimed our CEO. Of course, on top of this all, people who use Carma Carpooling are able to set up carpools on the fly, not to mention save a whole load of money (with small automatic contributions from riders going towards drivers’ costs). Too many benefits for a simple Venn Diagram, clearly.

This was a fun exercise that served to highlight the many reasons why people carpool. But what about people who don’t? Traffic congestion is an ever-increasing problem in our developed cities, and statistics show that this problem can be eliminated if people simply share their empty seats. This would also lead to a massive reduction in global CO2 emissions, while of course making driving far more affordable.

So, perhaps a more fitting title for this post would have been “why don’t more people carpool?“. If you have any thoughts, feel free to comment on this post or email us at team@car.ma.

To carpooling!

  1. Yes Rob, that would have been an apt title for your post. It is important that people should realize car pooling as it is not only beneficial for environment but also it saves money, time and reduces the problem of traffic congestion.
