10 years ago this month I was sitting in the back of a Syrian truck driver’s cab eating Felafel cruising through the Syrian desert.
5 years ago I was on the back of a moped, holding on for dear life to a member of the Black Hmong mountain tribe as we weaved through the mountain passes of Northern Vietnam.
Today I’m sat typing away in a nice air-conditioned office in Cork, Ireland, my feet on the desk and a coffee in my hand. It’s a bit of a lifestyle change, but there is something that ties everything together.
Now, as then my mind is on the journey. Getting from A to B. How to make it cheaper, more interesting, less of a chore and more of an experience.
My name is Nathan Richardson, content writer and latest member of the Carma team. Here at Carma it’s all about the trip, how to make it cheaper, better, greener – how to more efficiently match drivers to riders.
While I love the idea of a cheaper, greener commute, there is something else about carpooling that has captured my imagination.
It’s the matching drivers to riders. Who will I meet?
Every place, every journey is defined by the people we meet. Instead of sitting alone in traffic, we could be meeting new contacts, growing our network of people.
We can’t guarantee any mountain tribes, but maybe a chef or a CEO.
Delta Airlines is already helping to turn hours of boring travel time in to valuable networking sessions.
Innovation Class (http://www.deltainnovationclass.com) lets their customers meet leading professionals from the business, tech and art worlds and receive mentoring sessions at 35,000ft.
We want to do this at Carma – with Carma users all over the Bay Area, Austin and Washington DC, you could meet your next great contact tomorrow.
There’s a whole real life social network out there – Join Carma and join in.
