Austin Community Raises the Bar

Austin Raises the Bar

Every day, Austin gives us a new reason to be thankful we are a part of the community, and last Thursday was no different.  Austin City Council announced a goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions community-wide by the year 2050. While a few other cities like Seattle and Melbourne have announced similar plans, Austin’s goal is one of the most aggressive in the world. Some say it’s overly ambitious, but we think it sets the right tone for the city’s future. As transportation makes up 36% of city emissions, Carma is one of the options that will help residents reduce their impact while working towards the new city goal!

We are pleased to be here helping residents reduce their impact through carpooling. Check out the amazing accomplishments of our Austin members since the program began:

We’re so proud of our members for sharing more rides every day and keeping the carpooling community growing. Here we’d like to recognize a few of our carmapooling superstars. Each one traveled over 400 miles in a carpool and shared more than 25 trips in March.

A big thanks to YOU for making these past five months such a success in Austin. Can we keep raising these numbers? It’s up to you! Keep the Earth Month spirit up by carpooling, and follow us on Twitter at @CarmaATX to hear announcements for exclusive “good Carma” promotions in the coming weeks.

*Calculated using US EPA 2011 average passenger vehicle fuel economy of 21 MPG.  Based on two people sharing a ride rather than each driving alone.
