As Green as Greg? Part 2

…ahh, it’s finally Earth Day!

I love starting work on a Tuesday – I’m feeling pretty relaxed after a long weekend, I stroll into the office on a clear Irish morning, looking forward to spinning my chair a little more. Plus it’s Earth Day, and after our plan to plant loads of trees, I reckon I may just be catching up to Greg in the green stakes.

Rob our Head of Marketing looks fresh from his holidays, and Gearoid, the newest member of our team, peeks up from behind his monitor as Greg struts into the office, laptop in hand.

Greg doesn’t say anything for a while, just looks us up and down. Apparently Rob has racked up a few too many air miles and Greg says he can smell my weekend lamb burger on my breath. Our carbon footprints are still way too high!

“We’re going out to pick up litter, spruce up the streets, give back a little” Greg tells us as he prods the screen of his laptop.

“Even me?” asks Gearoid.

“Especially you!” Greg hits back. Obviously Gearoid needs to tighten his carbon footprint too. Rumour is, he has 17 appliances plugged into 1 outlet!

It seems Greg has found a website called Litterati that challenges people to Instagram themselves cleaning up the streets.

We all grumble a little as he herds us out of the door.

“My chair won’t spin itself” I mumble as I’m pushed through the fire exit into the bright morning sun. I haven’t even had my morning chocolate bar. I’m starting to feel a little faint.

Greg pats me on the shoulder. He promises me we can make another awesome video as a consolation.

Fortunately, we don’t have to go far to find some litter to clean up.

It’s actually nice to be outside. We pick up litter, try and convince passers-by that we’re not on community service and we shoot some “cleanin’ up the streets” vine videos.

Rob show’s us how it’s done. Totally not staged!

Gearoid doesn’t fair as well, too many hours of coding has left his arms feeble and unsuitable for litter picking. Never mind Gearoid, never mind. No need to be embarrassed.

Well that brings us just about the end of Earth Day. We’ve planted trees, picked up litter, made some cool, awesome videos, I ate some felafel and our Carma Carpool app was featured by Apple.

“How’d we do?” We’re wondering if all this exercise will be a factor at soccer tomorrow night.

Greg tells us we’re getting pretty green. Not as green as him, but he says it’s a good start.
