Funding for Futurefleet

On April 13th President Obama and Vice President Biden visited the Department of Transportation to announce the 2,000th transportation project to be granted funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009 (ARRA) in just 41 days.

Transit agencies can now apply for grants using ARRA funding to implement Futurefleet^TM, Avego’s real-time management system for passenger transit operators.

As an ITS technology for transit, Futurefleet^TM is an eligible expenditure under the Transit Capital Assistance for Urbanized and Non-Urbanized Areas. FTA grants under the ARRA are 100% federally-funded, with no local match required.

Additionally, funding can be sought through the Department of Energy’s energy and environment block grant program. The ARRA included $2.8 billion in formula funds to cities, counties, and states to help reduce energy consumption. Futurefleet^TM is an eligible use of those funds. Recipients of Federal-aid highway funds may also flex their highway dollars received under ARRA for use on transit projects such as Futurefleet^TM.
